Hair Love by Vashti Harrison
A father decides to stay at home to be with his daughter. One of the things he has to do is comb his daughter’s hair. Vashti used tight curls to illustrate the various textures of African American hair. The artwork, story and relationship between the father and daughter shows the love and bond between family members. The mother comes in at the end of the story, and the father and mother kiss with the closing page of all three of the characters hugging.
The warmth, love, and feelings expressed in this book pulls the reader in to experience these emotions. Well written and illustrated.
