Book Review. My Family Plays Music by Judy Cox.

My Family Plays Music

One of the goals for my writing is to contribute family-oriented books that illustrate relatable characters of people of color. As a lover of children’s literature and having loved reading to my children and grandchildren, I wanted to share some of the diverse picture books that have inspired me and that I have enjoyed sharing.

My Family Plays Music

I enjoyed reading this book to my grandsons as it demonstrates the warmth, harmony, and family traditions. Music is a connection to the soul and the pride in the sister’s face and participation with the band makes you feel as if you can actually hear it and are a part of the playing. The book describes how each member picks up his/her instrument and begins to play. From the sister and brother to the aunt, uncle, grandma and grandpa, even the great-grandmother who plays the pipe organ in church, the whole family plays music. It is warm, beautifully illustrated, and invigorating. The family’s love of music makes you want to play too.
